This is Jonas' first (as far as I know) drawing of his family. From left to right along the top are Nana, Gaga, Oliver, Mama, and AJ. One of the squiggles in the boxes below is Escher. When I asked him what all the other squiggles are, he said "other babies." (Let's hope this isn't a premonition.)

I think it's interesting he forgot to draw himself. I wonder if that's a common omission at this age. It makes sense-- he's drawing what he sees. When he thinks about his family, I would imagine he pictures everyone around him, but not himself. When I showed him the drawing today (he made it about a week ago) he did ask "Where am I?"

UPDATE: Now that I look at this again, I see there are enough heads along the top to include Jonas (if Escher is in fact one of the squiggles below.) So maybe he did draw himself, but forgot to list himself when I asked him to describe his picture.

I believe this one was for me (Mama). He asked me how to spell my name (Annabel). I showed him how to make and A at the bottom left, and he copied it. Then he made two N's at the top. I think the rest of it is in there somewhere...

Across the bottom, you can see he was working on writing his name. I believe there's also a person in this one. The head is a small circle near the center of the page, with another circle for the body and two long legs extending down to his "name."

"Mama, they kill the animals and then we eat the animals. Like cows, and piggies, and stuff. And chickens. Mama, chocolate milk is made out of milk, and it comes from a cow. They pump it out."

Jonas says this is "a chicken nugget, like I saw at the barn with the packas" (alpacas). He is referring to a trip with cousins Jenni and her son Rafael (13) to the alpaca farm in Indiana where Rafael works. When they visited the chickens, Jonas wondered "where the baby chickens are, the ones for the chicken nuggets."
