fall book

matching worksheet from school

Below is the back of the worksheet, where he has drawn J a N (all letters in his name). You can also see a dotted S rendered (I assume) by a teacher.

my family

This is Jonas' first (as far as I know) drawing of his family. From left to right along the top are Nana, Gaga, Oliver, Mama, and AJ. One of the squiggles in the boxes below is Escher. When I asked him what all the other squiggles are, he said "other babies." (Let's hope this isn't a premonition.)

I think it's interesting he forgot to draw himself. I wonder if that's a common omission at this age. It makes sense-- he's drawing what he sees. When he thinks about his family, I would imagine he pictures everyone around him, but not himself. When I showed him the drawing today (he made it about a week ago) he did ask "Where am I?"

UPDATE: Now that I look at this again, I see there are enough heads along the top to include Jonas (if Escher is in fact one of the squiggles below.) So maybe he did draw himself, but forgot to list himself when I asked him to describe his picture.

"Draw A Person"

Two-part series using "Iver's wiggly pen." Iver is Jonas' art teacher at pre-school.
